Torque Converter Identification
Why do we ask so many questions? You?ve probably said this to yourself, at least once or twice, when ordering an exchange torque converter over the telephone.
Most rebuilders have a tendency to give a torque converter the same name as the transmission from whence it came. However, the problem with this ?simple? method of identification is that there are, more often than not, several versions of converter for each transmission. Manufacturers design converters to best match engine power and torque characteristics with transmissions. Just to make things even more challenging, engine and other vehicle specifications change frequently from model to model, and year to year, thus creating many versions of the ?same? converter. Gone are the days when a BW51 transmission required a BW51 converter!
